Making an artificial button hole:

Firstly decide on the type of flower and colour that will be fitting for the day.  Traditionally people choose a rose or carnation, but nowadays it has become just as acceptable to use a gerbera, freesia or calla lilly.

Once you have decided on the flower and colour, think about how to dress it up, for example, you could use a fern, a feather, ivy leaves or a mixture of many items to make a background for the buttonhole.  Also you could use bullion with beads, pearl pins and berries to pick up other colours in the scheme.

When these have all been decided, you will need wirecutters, green floristry tape, scissors and floristy wire to complete your buttonhole.

Cut the main flower head off close to the very top of the stem and push a wire up through the bottom of the flower about an inch – so that it cannot be seen through the petals, but far enough to secure it.

You can do the same with any other smaller flowers you have chosen.

If there is nothing in our silk flower shop exactly to your requirements, please contact us to discuss, we always welcome ideas and are very happy to make bespoke designs.
