Padded Cross for a Funeral

Silk Flowers on Graves and in Cemeteries

It has long been argued that silk and artificial flowers on graves were considered garish and out of place in the English Country Cemetery, comparing unfavourably with natural flowers that change according to the seasons.

Sadly, many Parish Councils have, in the past, banned the display of artificial flowers and plants, preferring the real thing.  For those of us unable to tend a grave as regularly as we'd like due to age, disability, location or simply a lack of quality time, silk flowers are best.

In recent years artificial flowers, particularly those made of silk and latex, have improved significantly in quality, colour and texture to such an extent that many are virtually indistinguishable from real flowers.  Accordingly, some parishes are lifting their ban on artificial flowers and plants; which is great news!

The benefits of silk and artificial plants and flowers in the cemetery speak for themselves.

  • No maintenance required

  • They remain fresh looking for months

  • No watering required – there is a drought afterall!

  • Lifelike quality

  • Unlikely to get eaten by the monk-jack deer

  • Huge variety to choose from so they can be seasonal

  • Easy to arrange without breaking the stems or heads

  • Inexpensive
